Ketamine Assisted EMDR Therapy™ (KA-EMDR) combines low-dose sublingual ketamine with EMDR therapy to help access deeper healing, especially for long-standing trauma or depression that has not responded to treatment.

About Us

Kristyn Beckstrom, M.A., LMFT, is the founder and clinical director of Thrive Therapy, Encinitas. She practices humanistic, trauma-focused psychotherapy, walking alongside clients as they reconnect with their values, agency, and true selves while healing PTSD, anxiety, depression, and self-worth concerns through talk therapy and EMDR, in person and virtually statewide.

Client-Centered, Humanistic Therapy That Honors Who You Are

Our approach is humanistic and client-centered. That means we work within your value system, not ours, and we believe you already hold important answers about what you need. Therapy here is a collaborative space where you can be honest, even if you’re not sure how to put things into words yet. Some clients come in feeling overwhelmed and unsure, others come in feeling numb, guarded, or exhausted. All of that is okay.

When it comes to trauma and anxiety therapy, it helps to have a plan that supports both emotional safety and forward movement. We’ll spend time understanding what you’re dealing with now, what you’ve tried before, and what kind of support feels realistic for your life.

Trauma Therapy and PTSD Treatment in Encinitas

Trauma does not always look like one dramatic event. It can be ongoing stress, childhood experiences, emotional neglect, an unsafe relationship, or a loss that changed everything. Trauma can show up as panic, irritability, relationship conflict, nightmares, feeling disconnected, body tension, depression or feeling like you can’t relax.

At Thrive Therapy, Encinitas, our primary focus includes trauma therapy for concerns such as:

  • PTSD and complex trauma
  • Abuse, including sexual, physical, and emotional abuse
  • Sexual trauma
  • Body image issues
  • Low self-worth and low self-esteem
  • Feeling stuck or constantly on alert
  • Divorce, grief, and major life changes
  • First responder trauma and high-stress exposure

You don’t have to “prove” that something was bad enough to deserve support. If it affects your daily life or your ability to feel safe and connected, it matters.

EMDR Therapy and Ketamine-Assisted EMDR

EMDR therapy can help the brain and body process distressing memories and reduce the intensity of triggers. Many people seek EMDR for PTSD, abuse-related trauma, performance anxiety, and distress tied to relationships or self-worth. EMDR is not about reliving everything in detail. It’s about helping your nervous system reprocess what is stuck so you can feel more grounded in the present.

We also offer ketamine-assisted EMDR for appropriate clients. This can be especially meaningful for people dealing with long-standing trauma, treatment resistant depression, or patterns that feel difficult to shift with talk therapy alone. If you’re curious, we’ll discuss what this option involves, who it may be a fit for, and how we keep the process supportive and clinically guided.

Anxiety Therapy and Depression Therapy That Goes Beyond Coping Skills

Anxiety can be loud and relentless, or quiet and constant. Depression can feel like heaviness, disconnection, irritability, or a loss of interest in things you used to care about. Sometimes anxiety and depression show up together, especially when trauma has been part of your story.

We provide therapy for:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Stress therapy and burnout support
  • Psychotherapy for anxiety and/or depression
  • EMDR therapy for depression and anxiety when trauma is a contributing factor

We can work on practical tools, nervous system regulation, boundaries, and communication, and we also make room for deeper healing so you’re not only managing symptoms, you’re rebuilding a more secure sense of self.

Couples Therapy and Family Therapy

Relationships can bring out both tenderness and pain. Couples therapy and family therapy can support healthier communication, stronger emotional connection, and a clearer understanding of patterns that keep repeating. If trust has been strained, conflict is escalating, or you feel like you’re living as roommates instead of partners, therapy can help create a safer space to talk and to listen differently.
